Although I didn't expect it...I'm not at all surprised. This little girl seemed to always have the heart of a rockstar; and with the parents she has, it's just a natural fit. Willow Smith was recently signed to Jay-Z's Roc Nation label and is already getting mad airplay. I can see why...her first single is BANGIN.' Don't front on her because she's only 9 years old; this song just makes you want to dance. Get it! Willow...

What is she doing!?! The outfit, the hair, the performance...all of it is just a mess. But I still LOVE her though.

Anthony David crept on the scene a few years ago with his album, Three Cords and the Truth, and I was sure that he would be a staple in the fabric of Neo-Soul music. The album was an awesome debut with songs that are sweet, sensual and political coming together to create a cohesive effort. With his smooth, soulful voice, and the heavy acoustic presence; the album is still the perfect compliment to a lazy Sunday morning.

Three Cords and the Truth

His follow-up Red Clay Chronicles, was just as solid, though different from the first. He eased up on the acoustic a bit and leaned a little more on studio production; but that sensual voice of his can't be masked.
The Red Clay Chronicles

I've been waiting patiently for a new album, but it's been two years. I just have to ask; "Anthony, where are you?" Come back...your music is missed.

This song was passed along to me, and I had to give it an honorable mention. It's funny...yes. But it's just an all around GREAT song. And it does make for a great for a sing-a-long. Tell me you're not groovin'...

I'm not sure if Lyle Divinsky can still be considered an "underground" artist, because his songs can be found on itunes. But I found out about him in Union station in New York City, where he was performing and selling his CD Traveling Man. I don't want to speculate as to how he classifies his music (being an artist he may not classify it at all). But I call it bluesy Folk music with a whole lotta soul. His voice is like velvet, and his songs are heavy with acoustic beauty. Other than the subway performance that immediately made me ask for a CD, I have yet to hear him perform live. Though  I can tell you from my initial experience experience, that his voice is as pure in person as it is on the album.

If there is anything good and sacred left in music, this man will become a star. If you have never checked him out, do yourself a favor and look him up on itunes.

Here is a video of Lyle performing Push On in a New York subway station in March.

She has been a staple on the New York City music scene for over 15 years and Alia Marie is still going strong. Her voice is as strong as ever and new songs have as much soul as the underground classics that we can't stop singing. Her new work, Makeover Music, is sure to be another indie favorite.
